Useful information for Campers

The information on insurances and guarantee, as well as on the behavior in case of accident or breakdown are the same for campers as for other vehicles. However, some points are different, when renting a camper:

The campers can be rented with your national driver’s license. Depending on the vehicle and rental company, a minimum age of 18 or 25 years is required.
The minimum rental period required is 7 days during low season (April 01-October 31) and 15 days during high season (November 01 – March 31).

Santiago de Chile is the location for all campers and cars with roof top tents. The vehicle delivery and return in Santiago de Chile during business hours from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 6 pm, as well as Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm, is free of charge.
The campers can be delivered/returned on a Sundays/national holidays is subject to a surcharge. On January 1, December 25, as well as on the 18th and 19th of September (National Holidays), no motorhomes can be picked-up or returned.

You can easily take the camper to Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay. However, this is only permitted with valid exit documents, which include both the comprehension insurance and liability insurance as well as an exit permit. Unfortunately, spontaneous trips abroad without these documents are not possible.

The comprehension insurance covers damage to your own vehicle and the camper attachment up to total loss, taking into account the deductible and the exceptions also valid for Chile.

The liability insurance, however, covers personal injury up to 170.000 € per person and property damage up to EUR 34.000 € per claim. Note: Depending on the provider, these amounts may differ and are intended as a guide.

The amount of the fee for the exit permit depends on the booked vehicle, the duration of the trip, the destination country and the rental station and vary between at least 135 € and a maximum of 540 € (plus always 100 € legalization costs for the border crossing to Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil or Bolivia).

Note: Prices are subject to exchange rate fluctuations and are indicative.
Within the validity period of the departure papers, you can enter and leave as often as you like.

We will be happy to do the border crossing paperwork for you. Please indicate, when booking camper, that you plan a border crossing and indicate to which country, so that you receive all the necessary papers when you pick up the vehicle.

The rental terms allow for a free mile usage of between 200 and 250 km/day. Each additional mile will be charged with between 0.30 and 0,60 EUR (approx. up to 0.70 USD). Upon request, the average number of km included in the rental term can be increased (extra payment). If you already know your exact travel itinerary, as well as the amount of miles you will most likely drive, please contact us so that we can work out an individual offer for you.

On request, a second driver may be registered. This may be associated with an extra cost of 5 EUR / day (approx. 6.50 USD), depending on the rental company. In the case of rental cars with roof tent, the second driver can be registered for free. The personal information of the second driver must be submitted at the time of the camper booking with us.

The rental price includes a comprehensive insurance with a deductible of between 450 and 2,000 EUR (approx. bewteen 550 and 2,300 USD). The amount varies depending on the rental company.

The following damages are not covered by the insurance:

• damage to the windshield or other windows,
• tires or rims,
• vehicle underbody,
• shock absorbers,
• coupling, or damage to the interior of the camper or vehicle unless the damage was caused by an accident.
• Furthermore, loss or theft of components of the vehicle or camper attachment is not covered.

There is no coverage if improper use, drunkenness, accidents or damage which did not take place on a public road, is evident. When driving on unpaved roads (gravel), we recommend a maximum speed of 30 km/h or lower, depending on the road.

There is generally no insurance coverage if the damage was caused by negligence, and if no police report of the accident and/or the damage assessment has been submitted.

The insurance covers material and personal injury to third parties or death up to approx. 170.000 EUR (approx. 190.000 USD), valid in the Chilean territory. If you want a higher coverage, we recommend you to include a supplementary liability insurance (Travel insurance) in your home country.
Note: Depending on the provider, these amounts may differ and are intended as an orientation.

When picking up the vehicle, a voucher of your credit card will be created and have to be signed by you. It is therefore essential that you have a credit card with a minimum coverage of the required deductible with you. The voucher is for warranty purposes and is given back to you with proper return of the vehicle, provided there are no objections.
