Winter time brings great snow to Chile! What better way to shred the mountain than on the longest run in South America?! That’s why we decided to make the trip to Nevados de Chillan!

We rented a 4 Wheel Drive Suzuki SUV to make the 6 hour drive to the popular ski resort. The comfortable drive down the Ruta 5 passed by fast as I was mesmerized by al the incredible scenery and the snow covered peaks of the Andes that follow us the whole way down. From Chillan we made our way east to the mountains. We stopped along the way to get some fresh baked delicious tortillas, bread that is flat and round and baked in the ground. Driving up the valley, we began to feel the chill of the altitude. As we began the descent to the mountain, we encountered some snow and steep, sharp curves. We were happy to have the 4 wheel drive SUV as we made our way up the road. Finally arriving in our rented apartments on the ski slope, we rested for the big day of riding ahead.

We woke in the morning to find the car covered in a few feet of fresh snow. That didn’t matter as we skied out of the apartment to the lift. We enjoyed 3 epic days of powder. When it was time to return to Santiago we had to free the car from its snow blanket and then we carefully made our way back to Santiago. The SUV saved us from having problems in the snow that many other people in smaller cars encountered. Thanks Chile Inside for the great service!
