Which car suits me and my trip?

The decision for a car highly depends on the trip you are planning, the number of passengers and the luggage.

Large parts of the Panamericana and other Chilean highways are modern, well constructed and therefore easily accessible with every type of car. In contrast, most access roads to national parks as well as streets in the Andes are only unpaved roads. This applies for the north (Atacama), the Andes in Central Chile and the south (Carretera Austral). A vehicle with a higher ground clearance is necessary for these trips (e.g. Jeep, Pick-Up).
We recommend a four-wheel-drive for any trip into the Andes.

The following information applies for all rental cars:

  1. The tariffs mentioned are guidelines. Due to currency fluctuations, minor deviations are possible when you finally book the car.
  2. The photos are examples of the corresponding category and do not necessarily show the original rental car.
  3. Our estimation of costs per default includes an automobile liability insurance excluding deductible. Please mention in your request, if you like to rent a car with an insurance including deductible.
  4. All offers include VAT of 19%.
  5. The automobile liability insurance for Chile includes general liability insurance with an insured sum up to approximately 13,000 Euro. Depending on the rental car company, extended liability insurance with a higher amount of coverage can be booked.
  6. To err on the side of caution, we recommend concluding additional liability insurance in your home country (traveler police). Most of the larger insurance companies have suitable offers. A 24-hour emergency service (break-down service, towing service) is included in the tariffs. In case of longer waiting times due to reparations, a replacement vehicle will be provided by the rental car company.
